In 1994 MOSS
bought and equipped a Landover for ophthalmic field work and
sent this over together with a large quantity of medication
and spectacle frames by ship.

Produced
educational posters and an ‘eye game’ to help fight
blindness due to a lack of vitamin A.

Helped to
stock two new ophthalmic clinics in Antsirabe and
Fianarantsoa, have purchased a portable operating microscope
and a biometry machine (calculates the strength of the
artificial lens needed in cataract surgery) to enable a more
modern approach to cataract surgery.

Trained a
Malagasy doctor as an Ophthalmic surgeon in Tanzania. Dr
Naivo now works in Tomasina. We have sponsored 3 Malagasy
Ophthalmologists to attend courses in Community Eye Care so
that services can be delivered to the more rural parts.

Helped in
the production of two 24 part radio series on ‘eye/general
health’ transmitted all over the country in association with
‘Radio
SARIVOLANA’ – a project
set up by
The Dodwell Trust.

In
2004 MOSS donated a YAG laser machine (the first in
Madagascar) to help provide a centre of excellence for
cataract surgery and so reduce the barriers to eye health
care.

The
first MOSS Scholarship was awarded in 2004 to Dr Tony
Randriamora (a Malagasy Ophthalmologist) to have a 1 year
training in a retinal service centre in Bordeaux.

Donation of 2 autorefractors to
instigate childhood refraction program in Antananarivo and Fianarantsoa.
